Jen Manning – Painter (contact by email: artistic_licence@btinternet.com)

Art has been a big part of my life since an early age and I could often be found with a paintbrush in my hand. I’ve always been fascinated with wildlife and nature, which I incorporate wherever possible in my work.
I studied art through school to Advanced level but beyond that I am self-taught, preferring to work from my imagination and details in the world around me. I work mainly in acrylics on canvas and pencil and tonal sketches.
My inspiration from an early age came from my love of wildlife, light and dark in imagery. This developed my interest in the area of conservation art, which I would love to be involved in one day.
Most of my work is realistic to the subject matter, but recently I have started to explore more abstract themes. I use the contrast of dark, light and bold colours to express mood and drama in many of my paintings. I prefer to observe fine detail and have developed my own style based on these observations.
