My wallhangings have their distant roots in patchwork, but each piece of work has been created for the wall or to hang in a space and be viewed much as a picture in a gallery.

I have chosen to express my ideas or concerns through the medium of stitched textiles, Until very recently, I used the formal structure of a quilt as a challenge, sometimes breaking with the usual technical and structural conventions in order to better express their subject matter.

Recently this move away from quilts has increased, but familiar themes remain such as colour, line, shape, texture and form; proportion, contrast, harmony, and rhythm.

My work is generally large and colourful, but can be made to any size or use any colour combination.  Most fabrics are dyed or painted and then pieced together by machine before embellishing further with paint, pens, pastels, acrylics and stitch.

About Annabel

I live in Warwickshire, England. I moved here over 20 years ago and, somehow, have just stayed. I was born in Somerset and would love to go back one day. I miss the sea. I am married with two grown-up daughters who have recently left home. I delight in finding inspiration for my pieces in odd places; while walking, talking, travelling around, visiting new places, going to art galleries, books - in fact just about everything can spark an idea.

HUNDERTWASSER WALLHANGING

160cms x 98cms

Hundertwasser was a German architect/artist, and this wallhanging broadly follows the painting, Town Under The Rain. It is 100% dyed and painted fabric, which is then intricately pieced, and is machine stitched to add texture and definition.
